4 Things You Forgot You Forgot

Image
Toothbrush, contacts, underwear, phone charger. It happens time and time again. It's never fun forgetting an essential item when going on a trip, but what about the things you forgot you forgot? Now not every trip calls for the forgotten items below, but if you are going on a trip perhaps "around the world," then you might want to reconsider your packing list. 1. Grocery/sandwich bags No this isn't for backpack sandwiches! If you are packing anything  for your adventure, make sure it is dual purpose . What is more dual purpose than bags?! They don't take up much room in your backpack or suitcase, they're inexpensive, and you can use them for virtually anything: keep dirty clothes separate, divide wet clothes from the dry, act as an impermeable storage sack, covers for anything, the list goes on and on.   2. Flipflops Again, the key to these items is low cost . These $0.98 Wal-Mart specials may have a lifespan for a trip around the worl

Travel Tradeoffs

Image
Everything in life comes with a trade-off, and when it comes to travel some of these can change your entire experience. While at work, a coworker noticed how quickly I take my lunch and commented that I'm practically done eating before I even sit down. Now this I take as a compliment because for me this means I'm doing things right. For those that need to do some preparing for trips, whether financially, strategically, planning, etc. recognizing which tradeoffs are most important for you can make all the difference. Let's take a look at a few that I consider: 1. Live to eat vs. Eat to live - For me it's quite simple, I LOVE FOOD. Food is one of the greatest ways to experience the true culture of wherever you find yourself, and for me it is an area of travel I never want to skimp on. The best way I've learned to remedy this is by "eating to live" when I'm nearest home. What is eating to live? It's a pretty simple approach actually. Unless there i

Wanderwhat?

Image
Wanderlust (noun ) - a strong desire to travel. It's a word countless travelers identify with. Personally, I don't care for the word "wanderlust" itself because it sounds a little too forced for my liking, but the fact of the matter is it is spot on with my feelings towards adventure. Whether at work, home, the gym, anywhere, I am always craving the next travel destination. The more I think about the word, the more I see it. "Wanderlust." You see it on posters, stickers, Twitter bios, everywhere. People even have it tattooed on them! So why the fascination with this identifying word? Is it to sound hip and cool, identify yourself amongst others, or to feel connected with those sharing your similar interests? When I think about the word wanderlust it puts me off. Instead of simply retaining this not-so-positive outlook towards a word that encompasses every aspect of what I'm so passionate about, I decided to do a bit of reflecting on this within mysel

Destination: Deadwood

Image
For those from the Dakotas or surrounding areas (Montana, Wyoming, etc.), you've probably heard about Deadwood, South Dakota. This tiny "old west" town oftentimes gets the stereotype as a mini-Las Vegas attached to it. Rightfully so, this gambling town has a deep-rooted history with the gaming industry. This hotspot for partygoers can get overlooked by a wide array of other travelers. Those who may not realize what they're missing out on can include families, thrill-seekers, history buffs, shopaholics, retirees, and more. If you find yourself in any of these categories, I recommend sticking around to see why Deadwood, SD needs to be the next destination you roam to! Families From the outside looking in, families may feel put off by Deadwood. I can admit, this is a fair perspective given the fact that gambling accounts for around $100 million of the city's revenue, but the reality is this: there is something for everyone  in Deadwood. Between the restaurant
