American Style

One of my favorite parts about going somewhere new is that you never know what type of restaurants or other food places you will find there. Sometimes it is exactly what your imagination cooked up (man I'm on fire) and other times you laugh at the irony you find yourself in...even if that means eating at a restaurant that has "America" right there in the name.

Now what led us to dining in such a foreign cuisine spot on our last day in Iceland you ask? Sometimes travel exhaustion gets the best of you and you just need a little piece of home. As for Iceland and their unique spin on American cuisine, sometimes no matter how close you can get to the real thing it can still miss it in some way.

This burger joint was fairly interesting. It was not your run of the mill McDonald's or Burger King, but rather the Icelandic spin on an American burger place perhaps? It was difficult to tell whether this was a "fast food" restaurant or a laid back, sit down establishment. While you do place your order at the register towards the front of the store, you then sit in a booth of your choice where they will then bring your order to your table. The dimly lit restaurant creates a rather upscale vibe, but what threw me off the most was the side that accompanied my fries...

Cheeseburger, fries, and side of...gravy?

Different? Yes.
Delicious? YES.

Just wing it.
